About The Rainfall
Formed in Christchurch in 2023, The Rainfall have quickly established themselves within Aotearoa’s rock scene, combining the emotional weight of emo and pop punk with the melodic, anthemic sound of late ’90s and early-2000s alternative rock.
Early momentum saw the three-piece earn a place on NZ On Air’s New Tracks compilation with breakout single “Guts.” Their self-titled debut album followed, launched to a sold-out hometown crowd before the band took the record on tour across New Zealand.
The Rainfall continued to build nationally with two RadioScope Rock Airplay Top 2 singles: “Nothing Makes Sense,” which reached #2, and “Bend to Break,” which reached #1. “Nothing Makes Sense” has also appeared in The Rock 2000 for two consecutive years, climbing from #1834 in 2025 to #1059 in 2026. In 2025, the band performed at the sold-out Go Live! Festival at Christchurch Town Hall, further establishing their reputation as an energetic and emotionally charged live act.
In 2026, The Rainfall returned with their sophomore album, Death of My Youth, an ambitious step forward that expands on the sound of their debut with bigger hooks, heavier moments and a stronger sense of identity. The album was celebrated with another sold-out Christchurch release show, marking two consecutive sold-out hometown album launches for the band. Across the record, The Rainfall explore grief, loss, nostalgia, relationships, burnout and the uneasy realities of growing older, confronting the people, places and versions of ourselves we leave behind along the way.
With two albums, two sold-out album release shows, two RadioScope Rock Airplay Top 2 singles, national touring experience and growing recognition from rock audiences across Aotearoa, The Rainfall continue to build their reputation through emotionally honest songs and an increasingly ambitious live presence.
